Sarah Reader created Playful Adventures in 2020 to further spread the message about the importance of outdoor play for children. She believes that every child has the right to outdoor play, and the tremendous benefits and joy playing outdoors brings.

Sarah has a Bachelor of Physical Education from the University of Alberta, and has been designing and managing recreation programs for all ages in the Foothills of southern Alberta since 2008.
In 2016 Sarah got to combine her passions for play, nature, healthy child development and physical literacy when she was hired by the City of Calgary to create and supervise their first Mobile Adventure Playground. The Adventure Playground was awarded the AV Pettigrew award from Alberta Parks and Recreation in 2018, recognizing communities or organisations that have made a significant impact on improving the quality of life of citizens through Recreation and Parks.

Sarah is a High Five Trainer and is currently teaching the Outdoor Play Practicum at Bow Valley College, in their Early Childhood Education & Development Diploma program.

Sarah Reader’s love of nature and outdoor play was shaped by her adventures with family and friends, growing up in the Yukon Territory.
She is passionate about bringing back unstructured, loose parts play, and helping people connect and build better health through time outdoors.
When not at work, you can find Sarah out in the mountains exploring, camping and hiking with her husband and three sons.
